There are weaknesses in loneliness.
There are strengths in being alone.
So it reads of my sketchbook, an opening title to the imagery that helped me digest my experiences on the road. Becoming more and more fed-up with the hectic big city life in New York, I decided to set out for the Midwest, leaving The Big Apple behind me. During my journey I felt more and more drawn to the untouched nature of the countryside savouring days, weeks of freedom and solitude. The wilderness of these lonely, uninhabited places captivated me with an unprecedented feeling of gratefulness. With this book I would like to express my appreciation and thankfulness towards my parents. For their patience and their support, through my ever-challenging direction changes. In 1978 my father, then 28 years old, travelled to America for the first time. 41 years later, me aged 30 following his footsteps. The photography in this book was taken by my father during his journey through the states in the 80s. With love for my parents Eva and Peter and my sister Anne-Christine.
